Insurance Claim Terms

ACV — Actual Cash Value
The value of damaged property after depreciation is deducted from its replacement cost.

RCV — Replacement Cost Value
The estimated cost to repair or replace damaged property with materials of like kind and quality, without deducting depreciation.

Depreciation
A reduction in value based on factors such as age, condition, and expected useful life.

Recoverable Depreciation
Depreciation that may be paid back to you after covered repairs or replacement are completed and required documentation is submitted, subject to your policy.

Deductible
The portion of a covered loss you are responsible for before insurance payments are calculated.

Supplement
A request for additional payment when additional covered damage, necessary work, quantities, or costs were not included in the insurance carrier’s original estimate.

Proof of Loss
A formal statement submitted to the insurance company providing information about the loss and the amount being claimed.

ALE — Additional Living Expenses
Coverage that may pay for the reasonable increase in living expenses when a covered loss makes your home uninhabitable.

Date of Loss
The date the damage or covered event occurred, such as the date of a storm, fire, or water loss.

Scope of Loss
A detailed description of the damaged property and the work necessary to repair or replace it as part of the insurance claim.
