How Public Adjusting Works

A public adjuster is a licensed professional who represents the policyholder, not the insurance company, on a property damage claim.

Two adjusters, two different jobs

When you file a claim, the insurance company sends its own adjuster. That adjuster works for the insurer. A public adjuster works for you.

We inspect and document the damage, review your policy, prepare an estimate, and communicate and negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf.

You are never required to hire a public adjuster. It’s your choice.

What a public adjuster does and doesn’t do

Does: document the loss and prepare the claim

Does: represent you with the insurance company

Doesn’t: perform repairs or construction

Doesn’t: provide legal advice or represent you in court

Doesn’t: guarantee a particular result

Our process

We Handle the Claim. You Handle Everything Else.

01

Inspect & Document

We evaluate the property and document the full extent of the damage.

02

Review

We review your policy, the carrier’s estimate and existing documentation.

03

Prepare

We develop the scope, estimate and supporting documentation for the loss.

04

Represent

We communicate with the insurance carrier and participate in the adjustment process on your behalf.

05

Resolve

We work through differences in scope, pricing and documentation toward resolution of the claim.

What it costs

Public adjusters are typically compensated through a percentage of the insurance claim proceeds. At All Storm Adjusting, our fee generally ranges from 10% to 30%, depending on the type and complexity of the claim, the services required, and applicable state requirements.

Your exact fee is discussed upfront and clearly stated in a written agreement before you hire us. There are no surprise fees, and you’ll know exactly how we’re compensated before moving forward.

Fee requirements and limitations vary by state, and certain claims may be subject to specific fee limits.

Is it right for you?

It may make sense if…

Your property has significant or complex damage, your insurance estimate appears to be missing part of the loss, your claim was denied or underpaid, or you simply don’t have the time or experience to manage the claim process yourself.

It may not if…

The damage is minor, your deductible is close to the cost of repairs, or you’re satisfied with the insurance company’s evaluation and comfortable handling the claim yourself.

Not sure where your claim falls? We’ll review the situation and let you know whether we believe our involvement would add value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will hiring a public adjuster upset my insurance company?

Hiring a public adjuster is your right as a policyholder. Insurance companies regularly work with public adjusters, and our role is to professionally document and present your claim while communicating with the carrier on your behalf.

When should I call a public adjuster?

Ideally, as early in the claim process as possible. However, we can also become involved after an inspection, payment, partial approval, or denial. If you’re unsure whether you need representation, we can review your situation and determine how we may be able to help.

Do I still have to pay my deductible?

Yes. Hiring a public adjuster does not eliminate or waive your insurance deductible. Your deductible remains your responsibility under the terms of your policy.
